We are Joe and Vivian and this is our story:

From January 2000 to April 2001, we embarked on a journey that would forever change the way we saw the world. We quit our corporate jobs in New York City, sold all our belongings and traveled around the globe. With not much more than a large backpack, we went through 21 countries on six continents. The places we saw, the adventures we had and the people we met taught us one important lesson: people are all the same. Regardless of culture, religion, or economic status, we all want to be surrounded by loved ones, have the opportunity to provide them and ourselves a happy life, and to play a part in this crazy world.

Besides our spritual epiphanies, we also saw LOTS of great stuff. And we wanted to buy all of it and share it with everyone we knew. The seed for Global Home was planted.

Upon our return from this life-altering journey, we resumed our careers in marketing and art direction. (Joe as Marketing Director of Vogue Magazine, Vivian as an art director with clients such as Assouline Publishing and Martha Stewart Omnimedia) After experiencing September 11, 2001 in Manhattan, we realized that life was too short to wait for our next adventure. So in 2 years, we bought a old country house in Sullivan County, New York, fixed it up and got married there. Then we fell in love with the house and country living. It wasn’t long before our brains started trying to bring our 2 loves together; traveling around the world and living in the country.

That was when Global Home was born. Nestled in our small resort town in upstate New York, we began selling imported goods from around the world: Balinese marriage beds, glass paintings from Senegal, Moroccan tea tables and antique Chinese ‘ming’ style chairs, for example. We try to capture what we discover during our travels and translate it into a place where our customers easily see how the pieces could work in their own homes. Global Home is within an an actual house where each room is decorated in the eclectic mix we think how most people really live. We sell a lifestyle that is internationally inspired. We like to call it Modern Exotic.
